Although it is not the capital city of Cambodia, Siem Reap is the first thing to pop up in people's mind when it comes to Cambodia travel. The fairly hot weather all year round makes it quite comfortable to visit this city at any time. Still, the wet season from May to October may prevent access to several villages and temples due to the muddy roads. In spite of being an increasingly hot tourist attraction, Siem Reap still keeps a sense of Cambodian national identity with the dominance of Khmer architecture and the 12th-century temple of Angkor Wat and the fortified city of Angkor Thom. This is also home to Tonle lake, a seasonally inundated freshwater lake connecting to Mekong river, even the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. Siem Reap is the entrance for a temple treasure hunt in Cambodia, which features plenty of World UNESCO Sites.
