Vietnam has emerged as Southeast Asia’s frontrunner in post-pandemic tourism recovery, bouncing back stronger than ever. In 2024, the country welcomed an impressive 17.6 million international visitors—reaching 98% of its pre-pandemic numbers. Just before COVID-19, Vietnam set a record with 18 million foreign arrivals in 2019, and now, it’s nearly back to that milestone. This remarkable growth reflects a 39.5% surge compared to last year, positioning Vietnam ahead of its regional peers, with Malaysia following closely at a 94% recovery rate.

Here are key factors behind this success:

1. Traveler-friendly visa policies

As officially announced, as of 2024, citizens of 25 countries can travel to Vietnam and remain in the country for 14 to 45 days (depending on nationality) without having to apply for a visa. Full list of these countries can be found via: https://www.vietnam-visa.com/vietnam-visa-exemption/

2. New electronic visa portal

Starting from November 11, 2024, Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security has launched a new, streamlined electronic visa portal. This updated system promises smoother access to visas and faster processing times, creating a more accessible and user-friendly experience for travelers. More information here.

3. A Top Destination for Food Lovers

Known as one of the best culinary destinations in Asia, Vietnam offers a rich variety of authentic flavors. From the world-famous Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup) to regional delicacies like Banh Mi, fresh seafood, and diverse street food, every meal is an experience. Vietnam’s food culture reflects its deep traditions, fresh ingredients, and vibrant dining scenes, making it a paradise for food lovers.

Vietnam aims to welcome 22–23 million international visitors in 2025. Supported by easier visa policies, world-class cuisine, and breathtaking landscapes, the country is set to reaffirm its place as one of Asia’s top travel destinations.
