Vietnam welcomed nearly 18 million international tourists in 2024, marking an impressive 39.5% increase compared to the previous year and achieving the annual target of 17–18 million visitors.
1. Top Source Markets in 2024:
In terms of regional distribution, tourists from Asia accounted for 79.6% of total arrivals, followed by Europe (11.3%), the Americas (5.7%), and Africa (0.3%). Among the key markets, South Korea retained its position as Vietnam's largest source market in 2024, contributing 4.5 million arrivals (25.98%). China ranked second with 3.7 million arrivals (21.26%). Other top 10 source markets included Taiwan, the United States, Japan, India, Malaysia, Australia, Cambodia, and Thailand.
2. India: A Rapidly Growing Market
India emerged as a high-potential market, showing remarkable growth over the past two years. Tourist arrivals from India surged from 138,000 in 2022 to 392,000 in 2023 and reached 501,000 in 2024—an increase of 2.6 times within just two years. India now ranks as Vietnam's sixth-largest source market. The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism recognizes India as one of the most dynamic markets, contributing significantly to the diversification of Vietnam's inbound tourism.
3. Northeast Asia: The Engine of Tourism Recovery
Northeast Asian markets served as the primary drivers of international tourist growth in 2024. Notably, tourist arrivals from China increased by 214.4% compared to 2023, followed by South Korea (+27.1%), Japan (+20.7%), and Taiwan (+51.4%). The recovery of Asian source markets was led by South Korea, which achieved 106% of its pre-pandemic levels (2019). Taiwan followed with a recovery rate of 139%. Meanwhile, China recovered to 64%, Japan to 75%, and both Thailand and Malaysia reached 82%.
Building on the success of 2024, Vietnam's tourism industry aims to welcome 22–23 million international tourists in 2025.
