After temporarily closing for the expansive construction costing nearly VND 1.5 trillion (US$62.3 million), Dien Bien Airport is anticipated to resume operations from December 2.
Located in Dien Bien Province in Northwestern Vietnam, Dien Bien airport, previously known as Muong Thanh airport, was built by the French. The expansion project for Dien Bien Airport encompasses the construction of a runway with dimensions of 2,400m x 45m, a two-way turntable, and a cement concrete structure designed to facilitate the operation of Airbus A320/A321 aircraft or equivalents. The passenger terminal, characterized by modern and harmonious architectural lines, comprises two floors, accommodating various facilities such as departure and arrival areas, waiting rooms, business class lounges, commercial services, and auxiliary areas for operations. In its initial phase, the terminal is designed to cater to a capacity ranging from 500,000 to 1 million guests per year.
Vietjet Air and Vietnam Airlines, the two major carriers in Vietnam, are scheduled to recommence operations on the Ho Chi Minh - Dien Bien and Hanoi - Dien Bien routes respectively, starting from December 2, 2023. Vietjet Air will operate flights on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, while Vietnam Airlines will provide daily services, offering enhanced connectivity to Dien Bien.
The revitalized and expanded Dien Bien Airport is poised to play a pivotal role in attracting businesses to invest in the realms of tourism, trade, and service development. The airport expansion serves as a strategic move in preparation for Dien Bien province's initiation of "National Tourism Year - Dien Bien 2024." This significant cultural, economic, and social event, boasting both national and international prominence, is intricately linked to the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024).
Possessing numerous breathtaking natural landscapes and being home to the renowned Dien Bien Phu battlefield relic complex, the province of Dien Bien is undeniably an ideal destination for your company's Vietnamese tourism products.
